Out in the Wild: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders with Explore Austin

While many of us are sipping on our Monday morning coffee, I'm out in the wilderness with a fearless troop of sixth-grade girls! We're spending time with Explore Austin, an incredible organization that is making a lasting impact on young lives.

This organization is truly special because it empowers youth from economically disadvantaged communities through a free, six-year program. It's built on a powerful combination of leadership development, long-term mentorship, and the great outdoors.

A Six-Year Journey of Growth

The Explore Austin program starts in sixth grade, diving immediately into adventure and growth.

• Monthly Saturday Challenges: For nine months of the year, the students—called "Explorers"—tackle engaging monthly challenges designed to build their skills and confidence.
• The Summer Trip: At the end of the year, we take them on an unforgettable summer trip where they get to apply all those new skills out in the real world.

The journey doesn't stop there. Over the next six years, these young leaders will be taken on incredible expeditions to places like Idaho, Iowa, and Arkansas, depending on where the rivers flow, the rock climbing goes, and where the mountain biking takes us. It's an opportunity to learn grit, teamwork, and self-reliance in breathtaking natural environments.
