We recently had the opportunity to connect with the marketing team from ICON, a company that is pioneering the future of home building. They presented an in-depth look at their 3D printing technology and, more importantly, what it represents for you, the consumer, especially in the Austin real estate market.

The Groundbreaking 3D Printing Process

The construction process is truly a marvel of engineering. It involves using a massive crane that is programmed with the exact blueprint of the desired home.

This crane then operates by essentially 'squeezing out' a specialized cement mix, layer by layer, to form the entire structure of the house. (The process is so unique, it’s been compared to how certain foods are formed!)

A Dramatic Reduction in Construction Time

The most significant impact of this technology is the potential for speed.

Traditionally, we see new home building timelines stretch anywhere from 8, 12, or even up to 18 months, depending on city permitting and construction complexity.

With ICON's 3D printing, however, the structure of these homes can be built in as short as seven days. The entire process, from foundation to final completion (including all necessary plumbing and electrical work), can be condensed to just one week to four months.
