SXSW Week 2 Kicks Off and Major Airbnb Rule Changes Hit Austin!

We're heading into the second week of South by Southwest, and there's a lot going on!

The world is changing, and at South by Southwest, that means an incredible lineup! I'm personally excited that one of my favorite music artists, John Summit, is one of the top performers at South by. There’s so much happening as we move into the festival's second week.

Major Changes to Austin's Airbnb Regulations

You know what else is changing? Airbnb rules and regulations in Austin!

The City is implementing a major new rule, capping how many Airbnbs can be in any one area within 1,000 feet of each other.

This has a direct impact on properties like mine. For my duplex, I can only have one registered as an Airbnb because the other one is closer than 1,000 feet. That's a huge adjustment!

Furthermore, the City of Austin has put the onus of compliance onto the platform itself. Airbnb is now obligated to ask each owner for the right documentation to be able to operate an Airbnb.

This is a major shift in the short-term rental landscape here in Austin. Lots of changes are happening, and the official news should be confirmed any day now. Stay tuned for more updates!
